New *RACH* Ch. Acadia Independence Day, CD, PCD, BN, RM3, RAE, RC, TKI

12 year old Mason, and Anita completed the Rally Advanced Champion title at the Blue Ridge Dog Training Club.   Congratulations on this huge accomplishment!  

To earn the RACH, the dog and handler team must earn 300 RACH points from the Excellent B and Master classes, at least 200 of which must be earned from the Master class, and earn 20 triple qualifying scores.  That means they must qualify in Advanced B, Excellent B. and Master class at the same trial, 20 separate times (separate events).

12 year old Mason Cleans Up at the Rally Trails

 Ch. Acadia Independence Day, CD, PCD, BN, RM3, RAE, RC, TKI  "Mason"  Cleaned up at the PWCCP Rally Trials on September 6 and September 7.  He earned several placements and both days he earned Highest Combined score for Excellent B & Advanced B and Highest Combined Triple in Master, Excellent B, and Advanced B.  This is a huge accomplishment!  Anita said she has never experienced that before. The coolest part of this big accomplishment is that Mason turned 12 years old this month.  

In honor of his accomplishments, the Corgi Club made Mason an Honorary Fluffy Corgi.

Happy 11th Birthday Mason

Mason turned 11 years old today.  Happy Birthday Mason.  He  has been living his best life with Anita.  The two of them just completed the Rally Choice Title. Way To Go!! Anita says that Mason still acts young and I have no doubt that it is because of the mental and physical stimulation of training and trialing.

4th of July has historically been a Successful dog show day for us

 Today "Trestle" (Acadia Everyone's Opinion) was Winners Bitch- but I didn't get a picture because it was only 1 point, but on the drive home I was thinking about all of the successes I have had on this day over the years- and wished that I had gotten a picture.  

Ch. Zion Acadia Town Heroine, CDX, PT, VCX finished her championship on this day in 1997.  Tucket was the first dog I had finished by myself and I pretended that all of the fireworks that night were for us.  We lived in Arizona at the time and these shows were in California.  We had a lovely dinner on a dock by the ocean- and I was on cloud 9.  

Another memorable 4th of July I was showing a bitch in Maryland, my friend Cathy Meek had one of my bitches in Arizona, and someone else (I can't remember who) had a 3rd girl out - all three of them  won that day.  Again, Fireworks to honor their success!

"Mason" was conceived on July 4th- and was named Ch. Acadia Independence Day, CD,RM,RAE, BN,TKI - he became GCh. Acadia Serenity's first champion, and funny enough- his father's name is GCh. Barwood Clearsky Fireworks (he was born in July- but not the 4th of July)

Congratulations to the 5 new title holders

Sheltie Pedigree Lines  is a great service to sheltie breeders.  This site is a historic and current record of sheltie genealogy.  I use it constantly to test out possible stud dogs and the pedigree compatibility with my girls.

One of the services of this site is that they keep track of new title holders.   I enjoy seeing the new title holders. The site has two lists, one for new Champions, and one for new performance titles.  When I just looked, there are 5 Acadia bred shelties on the new performance title holder list.  On this blog I updated Lucy's title to reflect her MACH.  Congratulations to all!!  I am a proud breeder!

*New Champion* Acadia Independence Day

I got a wonderful text from Mason's handler informing me that he was Winners Dog today for that final major and the Championship.   I always like to show the dogs myself, but I don't like to go to shows in the winter, and Florida has 2 solid weeks of shows.  Lots of full-time handlers go to Florida to take advantage of good weather and multiple shows in one location.

Mason- what's that in your mouth?

Mason was being handled by a friend who professionally handles shelties for a living, and has the advantage of living in Florida.  I am so thankful that happened quickly- she only showed him in 3 shows.Mason is the son of GCh. Acadia Serenity and is her first champion, from her first litter.  These are pictures of him growing up.

When everything feels like gambling

We didn’t win the anything in the Powerball, but I knew that money was spent gambling.  These past few weeks the stock market has been falling, but we know that investing is a gamble.  Mason is at shows in Florida this weekend competing to win that last major for his championship, and sometime dogs shows just feel like gambling.  Cassia was bred and had a litter of 1 in December and Claire was bred and is due now.  She is not pregnant.  Liza was just bred this week and wow, now breeding just feels like gambling.

There are always methods and ways to increase the odds, but at the moment I am just feeling beaten.  If I had all of the money I am spending on the gamble, I would be ahead, but it is not just about money.  All of these risks that we take- all of the gambling is really about hope and excitement.  It is really about the excitement of the future; about the possibilities of what is to come.  

I think I have done everything I could to increase the odds that Liza has conceived.  I think I am doing what I can to increase the odds that Mason will finish this month.  I think I am doing what I can to increase the odds that Cassia’s single puppy will be a future star- but time will tell.  For all of it (especially the money parts), I have heard it’s better to be lucky than good.

Mason swinging from the trees by his teeth.

Mason loves to play.  He has invented his own game.  It is obviously that enjoys swinging and he is pretty creative to have discovered how to do this. I have attempted to play tug with him, but he is not that interested in "just" tugging.  While watching him swing, I realized it was more the swing than the tugging that he seems to enjoy.  I have seen him hang on and use his hind legs to push off and start swinging again.  He is a one of a kind.
