Herding

Acadia Shelties live on Ewe Win Farm. Ewe Win is a 66 acre sheep farm where we raise Reg. Katahdin Hair Sheep as breeding stock and we sell lamb meat directly to the customer (yes- it is all processed at a USDA inspected butcher where it is individually wrapped. We sell it by the cut or the pound depending).

A goal was to offer herding lessons and a facility for trials. This year we have actually begun the classes! Our first class consists of 3 Aussies, 1 English Shepherd, 1 Sheltie, and 1 Samoyed. All of the dogs are doing very well and all of the handlers are really enjoying the experience.

Yesterday Chris Davies from Fly Away Farm came up to give us lessons. The pictures are from those classes with Chris. Pictured is Chris with Karen's Aussie, Helen with her Samoyed and me with the sheltie. Yesterday the temperature was almost 90 degrees so we chose to work in a smaller space, undercover so we could be out of the sun.

It looks like we are FINALLY on our way towards meeting our herding goals.

Really pleased for you Cadie! I'll come for some lessons when I move back! :-)
